This was a 'Gotcha' story, coming from one who always makes me laugh, or think, or growl, or at the very least, "react!" I''m in tears. Worse, I'm bawling. --- This shared story, the feelings, the sad finale, even the vet bill, ALL have brought me back into my own stories of the 'four-legged friends' I've known for all of my 91 years. Thank you ... and bless you ... I think. --- Elaine
I lost a twenty year old kitty about three years ago and felt very sad. Then one very cold night, during the pandemic, going into the Christmas weekend a kitty appeared on my porch step. She'd been coming around for months for the free food. She was sitting there calmly, her nose and one eye were gommed up. She looked pitifull, she'd come to me for help. I took her to the local emergency vet afraid that she might have distemper but it turned out to be a respiratory infection (Without treatment she would have suffered a slow and painful death). Three nights at the vet's, a goodly chunk of money and she came home with me. I nursed her back to health. She stayed with me. I knew I had to help and she knew I would. One kitty went over the rainbow bridge and another appeared. That was almost two years ago. Long live our feline friends!
Tears are streaming for you! Thank you for the touching tribute. Sounds like you gave her the best life. May her ghost keep your wonderful memories flowing!
Thanks, Fitz, except you made me tear up again over losing Nico, who slid off to kitty heaven three years ago and who I still can feel stretched out against my back in the night.
For those of us who have been blessed to have lived with a friend, Kiko, for many years, this posting was beautiful. We shared Kiko's house for many wonderful years. Thanks for sharing.
That was so damn sweet. Makes me view the annoyances of cats quite differently. Maybe this morning I’ll pet Princess as she sleeps on my face instead of shooing her away. 💜
So, here I am reading this in November and crying like I've lost my own cat - who looks amazingly like your former cat! How these little fur bals worm their way into our hearts... I got mine just a week before I received a cancer diagnosis. She was my comfort creature, except during chemo - she stayed away! She is my Holy Sacred Being! I exist only to serve her, the vetrinarian, and the pet dermotologist.
A beautiful feline tribute!
I believe your editor was still present.
My condolences.

Of course the cartoonist with a wit as sharp as a switchblade has a heart of gold.
Very sorry.
Thank you, kind soul! I count myself lucky to have enjoyed so many lovely companion pets.
Of course she would approve. It’s your voice she hears
Awwwwwwwwwwww.

Thank you.

You're welcome David!
This was very moving. I’m so sorry for your loss. My kitty Daniel must be her spirit twin. He rules our house in a very similar way.
Thank you. We're honored to be in their pride.

So hard. Sending condolences and virtual hugs.
A very heart warming tribute to a very special feline.............DrSophia DVM & Cat lover...
My condolences…as hard as it is to lose a human being, it is hard to lose a pet, who is close to your heart. RIP Nala.

How important these creatures become when we love them.
