More than a decade ago I was in Salt Lake City for the 2013, annual meeting of the American Association of Editorial Cartoonists when my friend Pat Bagley, the Editorial Cartoonist for “The Salt Lake Tribune”, and our conference host, asked me if I’d like to join him and two other cartoonists for an interview at a local radio station.
Love Benson’s work. Lived in SLC from ‘81-‘90, and have many of his cartoons published in books. He helped us make more sense of a nonsensical community. 🥰
I really admire Mr Benson. I was a teenager when I first became politically aware and his cartoons always since have been my favorites; he shines as a local boy who ranks among The Best.
Best wishes for his full recovery, and to you for a continuing career of lampooning our political foolishness.
Well, I am familiar with his cartoons after all! Didn't recognize the name, but as soon as I looked at his work.....Wow! Direct, to the point and well-thought out! Thank you for your work, Mr. Benson!
I haven't yet been acquainted with his work, but you can be sure I will check it out! I hope he has a quick and complete recovery. With you cheering him on, how could he not?
Thanks, Fitz, for the news and hope for Benson’s full recovery. And ♥️ the attached work! Wonderful! So sad that we have lost so many political artists. As well as the newspapers themselves. Sad.
Thank you for this wonderful article about a wonderful guy.

Heartbreaking to read how poorly newspapers treated their award-winning cartoonists. Can’t imagine how awful other employees were treated!

Very sorry to learn of his illness -- his work in the Republic was always outstanding.
Long live Steve Benson.
