A 1st Amendment purist responds

There are Neo Nazis publishing newsletters on substack. I am far more grateful the publishers of substack are First Amendment free speech purists than I am upset by some American Nazis. I have no objection to Nazis entering the public arena. Better to see them in the sunlight than to encounter them under a rock in the dark.

Before the second world war many German Americans were pro Nazi supporters of Germany. They formed into Bundts, hosted camps for kids, drilled, admired Hitler and rallied in Madison Square Garden.

How did Americans respond to their fellow citizens spouting the Nazi line in our midst? Ordinary heroic Americans infiltrated these groups and documented their moves and plans. Ordinary heroic Americans harassed these groups. Ordinary heroic journalists exposed these groups. More than one incident of sabotage was stopped by the actions of ordinary heroic Americans.

We ordinary Americans understand in our gut what we are fighting for and what we are against.

We take our liberty for granted our entire lives until the second our liberty is threatened by a tyrant, and when then happens you have awakened a terrible giant that will not rest until that tyranny is annhilated.

Have faith in your way of life. Fear no racist ideologues or their insipid ideas. Read them, follow them, identify them, sue them, spy on them, ridicule them, satirize them, know them, trail them, watch them, infiltrate them, betray them, document them.

Have faith. There are more more of us than there are of them.

Have faith. There are more ordinary heroes out there than you can imagine.
