2024 and the rise of Trump's twisted Christians
Any observer of the Insurrection can see today’s Republican Party, formerly your local starched shirt Chamber of Commerce cabal and one John Bircher wing nut, has devolved into a mob of millions of religious fanatics led by a criminal reality TV show host promising them the revival of a Christian America that never existed. And revenge.
Now, I’m not a religious man but I do think once you stick your pious evangelizing puss into America’s secular public town square you and the religion you wear on your sleeve like a Taliban armband are fair game. And as a progressive whose liberal values sprang from Christian thought this biblically literate heathen must confess to you he does not recognize the revolutionary Judean carpenter that Trump’s followers follow. What I do see are millions of my fellow citizens following partisan preachers and chaos agents who distort the old teachings to support their Fascist authoritarian fantasy of transforming our nation into a radical conservative Christian theocracy where they can marginalize the marginalized, crucify trans kids, stone sodomites, force rape victims to carry the rapist’s spawn to term and install Donald Trump in the White House as their Savior for Eternal Life.
According to a national poll conducted by HarrisX for the Deseret News “a majority of Republican voters consider former President Donald Trump to be a person of faith, putting him ahead of other more vocally religious individuals, like his former Vice President Mike Pence.”
I’m perplexed by this because it’s apparent to me Trump, the alleged person of faith, only has faith in the unholy trinity of: (1) money, (2) his ability to lie his way out of any jam, and (3) his gift for pinning the rap on the nearest sap.
I wonder if any of those pious pinheads who were polled were asked if they felt inclined to lynch the equally pious Mr. Pence as did Jesus’ followers on the Holy day of the Insurrection. I wonder where these folks who think Trump is a Godly man attend church. In sheds behind gun shops? In bunkers below ground? In mega-churches?
Are they reading from the Book of Timothy McVeigh in survivalist compounds among the protein powder? Or are they in those lovely brick and mortar churches down the street from where you live? The suburban ones with the daycares and free meals for the poor and the packed parking lots on Sundays? Who are the ministers and pastors preaching that Trump, the pussy grabber, is a person of faith? Where in our towns and cities are these holy hotbeds of hate, these pro-Trump madrassas for this plague of anti-democratic and anti-Semitic madness?

So sick. So true. Unreal. Never ever thought I would see this country in such a mess. More than anything, so very scary. At my age, I have seen the country move in wonderful directions. Civil rights, women’s rights, rights for the ones who are so hated. And it’s ALL changing. Not for the better. Just scanned Cal Thomas’ (puke) latest vile in the AZ Daily star grouching again about public schools indoctrinating children. NO! Religious schools indoctrinate. Public schools are trying their best to PREPARE students for the real world. Real world with all the things! Sigh. Thanks Fitz, happy 2024.
All media needs to stop referring to the Republican party. That is gone. There are only the Democrats and the Magas. Any Independent who does note vote for Democrats has become Maga as well. Call them what they are.
