David, Thanks for addressing this in an informative way. But your repeated entreaties to "pray" for the whole region and situation ain't gonna do a damn bit of good. It can be argued that all the people who fanatically pray--Jews, Muslims and Christians. each to their own gods--are part of the problem in the Middle East. If prayer worked, none of this would happen.
Thanx due to FITZ for a concise description of the 'current events,' re: Israel and a Hamas faction. For hours, it's been hard to find a straight story without a judgmental twist. Sadly, this ongoing 'fight' is a biblical one of ancient origin. Today, people are being killed in the name of an epic "difference of opinion" that evolved almost since the beginning of time. It never will be solved, nor will it end. But, of course, I'm an old Presbyterian lady, so what do I know, right? --- There will be wars and rumors of wars, as was written. IMHO: Paul McCarney was right: "Let It Be!"
Thank you, David. Like others here I am trying to understand this situation and what it portends for the Middle East and for the U.S. Sadly, as you note already misinformation abounds. You have made a useful contribution in pulling all of this together.
Thank you for this information David - especially the Map key of Distance in Arizona terms.
I know so little about any of this because #1 - growing up in small town AmericA #2 - I did not take the time to learn more as I was raising my two kids
And since then. I have probably learned more today than I have my entire life. Thank you for the information you provided.
I do pray for our brothers and sisters; I pray that we Americans will muster the courage and fortitude to stick to our promises and our committed assistance, from both sides of the isle, and that it shall never fade. We make bolden our allies' enemies when we show a weakness and begin to renege on our oaths.
Thank you so much, Fitz, for this thorough review of what is happening in Israel. This format is uncharacteristic of your typical work but just as hard hitting. I appreciate your effort to turn what is happening into a cogent narrative rather than a series of news flashes. The world has become so small it feels as though everything is happening in our own backyard, because, in one sense, it truly is.
I cannot possibly condone the attack and brutalities on Israel by Hamas. But I remain appalled by Israel’s continuing attempts to extend their state into Palestinian Territories. It is and has always been unconscionable. I am very tired of hearing how we “stand with Israel.” I’m sure we think our “reasons” are tantamount. They aren’t. The Palestinians have lost and lost and lost. They need someone, us, to stand up for them, demand restitution, and guarantee their boundaries.
The Palestinians' hatred of Israelis is quite understandable given that European Jews used terrorism (Mossad), violence, and fear to steal everything -- homes, farms, businesses, lives. It seems likely that Israelis will continue to receive horrific payback for the evil their ancestors perpetrated (much like what our ancestors did to the indigenous peoples of America) until such time as they help the Palestinians establish an independent country of their own, which seems unlikely.
Please note that Magen David Adom serves EVERYONE regardless of race or religion. The same goes for Haddash hospital.
Thank you for that context
Nice work, Fitz. A real service.
Biden releases $16B to the terrorist supporting Iranian Government and lo and behold Hamas attacks Israel. That was a "no brainer".
You need to better understand the situation that you are attempting to describe. You're juggling apples and oranges ... which never works.
Thank you for a much better reply which I had not yet found. This was planned for a VERY long time. Apples & Oranges exactly

Good truth brother

I know people in Palestine and in Israel and have visited both. It is a sad situation over there. Please consider another perspective. https://www.jewishvoiceforpeace.org/2023/10/statement23-10-07/?sourceid=1002365&emci=b5d3f301-5765-ee11-9937-00224832eb73&emdi=1279ec77-6865-ee11-9937-00224832eb73&ceid=299624

Wait a minute, didn't Jared Kushner fix everything in the Middle East?
(snark)
You nailed it sister
