There was joy.
There were young beautiful families. See below. Her son’s going to get his high school friends to join us at our next gathering. They brought the awesome playlist that kept us moving in rhythmic joy on a beautiful toasty day.
There was joy in the streets. And Beyonce blasting “Freedom”.
One couple was so moved by the sight of our happy crew of waving Harris supporters they pulled out of traffic and parked. “Mind if we join you?”. We gave them signs to wave. They knew the assignment. At least 60 people or more showed up. There were many wonderful homemade signs and colorful shirts and silly hats. It was a party.
The next sign waving street demonstrations will be:
At Kolb and Speedway, this coming Saturday October 26th / 10 am to 2 pm

We had a great turnout for Ina and Oracle and next we are going to do Campbell and River Rd. Please park in the parking lot by the offices on the Southwest corner.
Good traffic area with the farmers market, the church and many restaurants. Bring a sign if you have one, we do have extra. Invite like minded friends, bring water and sunscreen. We will have music and lots of fun! Please RSVP here in comments thanks! See you all there!
I will have cases of water and cookies again. Wear a hat if you need it will be a warmer day. High 88 to 90 But we can do this!

The democratic experience
A beautiful young family brought some amazing music on their playlist that energized us and kept us going for the four hours we waved our American flags and our “we’re not going back” signs and waved to all the people who honked and waved back. A lot of honks with “thumbs ups”. A few old white male Trumpers driving big trucks hollered “Trump” and flipped us off before going home to wives who hate them. We threw kisses. One young white male burned rubber in our faces as he sped off to fail his GED test. Another Trumper, driving a black smoke belching monster truck, a “Polluter for Trump”, slowed while passing our corner to blow clouds of thick black carbon monoxide out his tail pipe directly in our faces.
A giant silver Trump truck parked across the intersection from us and just watched us for a while. I wasn’t concerned. I didn’t see a gun rack.
So many people answered the call and showed up some decided to split off, like natural born organizers do, and occupy the corner across the intersection from us. Seeing that number of people show up on Sunday to take to the streets for Kamala Harris and Tim Waltz inspired me. This is important work we do my sign waving friends, brothers and sisters and all, the joyful work of the concerned citizen, the hard work of a patriot. Kamala says hard work is good work.
I met a lovely woman, the widow of a fine navy pilot and we talked about the military life. It was not long before we both asked, “How could any veteran support that man?
I met a woman who was my adult daughter’s fourth grade teacher 30 years ago.
Democrats are friendly. We’re not afraid you might be a cat and dog eater. In short, we are not nuts. We look nuts during campaign season, but we’re really quite normal.
Nobody knew anybody else, and it was a friend producing endeavor.
One Trumper, a woman, showed up with a small sign to stand on one lonely intersection corner. She was there to stand tall for her moral pygmy.
A couple of women talked political theory. “Anytime I see three old white men together I think automatically they’re Trumpers —babysat by Fox all day.”
We talked about going crazy following polls. Knowing the assignment. I said to one person “I’m anxious. We are in the landing craft rocking Normandy Beach. The door has dropped. This is our time to charge that beach and liberate the world from a tyrant once and for all.”
“How is it half the country supports a criminal?” Speaking of sanity, enjoying your right to free speech is very therapeutic as this election winds down. Join us. Spread the word.
Last week, waiting in line to hear Obama speak I met Lupe and Jan, two inspiring funny lovely Democrats. I was on a fanboy high about to see a cross between Elvis, MLK, Jesus Christ and Morgan Freeman. I joked that I expected to be transfigured by the experience. “I might experience Barack rapture.”
Every rally I have attended with thousands of volunteers in southern Arizona has been a genuinely joyful experience, a secular hallelujah for democracy, bathing in the exuberance and confidence of the old and young, about winning this thing if everyone gives it their all. It’s a curious feeling for this old cynic to process.
Our “Taking it to the streets” demonstration wound down at two in the afternoon. Many had stayed the whole four hours. We were exhausted. I stayed behind to pick up any abandoned signs and pretended to do cleanup while my wife did all the work.
I am your keeper of the signs. I have a stack of signs in the back of my car, three large fabric banners, a stack of homemade signs that are wonderful, and quite a few of the nicest mass-produced Styrofoam yard signs.
Someone left behind a box of haind painted rocks to leave for people to find. I’ll bring them.
I’m guessing more than 30,000 eyes saw us take to the streets for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. Join us. There are more of us than you can imagine.
I love those painted rocks, wow, great to throw at cars with Trump bumper stickers!
Thanx, FITZ and family, and every other sign-walker and sign-waver who heard the invitation, showed up, and made "some good trouble.". I can't "do" this physically 'show up' stuff anymore ... it's been since forever that I could do it. (FYI: Don't be in a hurry to "get old" any time soon!) I have never missed voting in an election ... from the FIRST one when I was 21 to THIS one and I'm 93 ... there's no better feeling than to be a participant in the greatest country on Earth. Let's DO this, people!
