Did he say that?

We did some fact checking of Senator Booker’s 25-hour marathon speech in the Senate. Some of the statements attributed to the Senator are true. A number of statements attributed to the Senator are falsehoods promoted by trolls.

1. “I rise tonight with the intention of disrupting the normal business of the United States Senate for as long as I am physically able. I rise tonight because our nation is in crisis.” True

2. “In just 71 days, the president has inflicted harm after harm on Americans’ safety, financial stability, the foundations of our democracy, and any sense of common decency. These are not normal times in our nation.” True

3. “If you stand for nothing, Burr, what'll you fall for?" False

4. “He said for us to go out and cause some good trouble, necessary trouble, to redeem the soul of our nation. I want you to redeem the dream. Let’s be bold in America.” True

   

5. “They call what I’m doing the weave.” False

6. “The power of the people is greater than the people in power,” True

7. “I got to pee so bad…Good God. It’s past time to open the fire hydrant.” False

8. “This is not a partisan moment. It is a moral moment.” True

10. “These are not normal times in America and they should not be treated as such in the United States Senate. The threats to the American people and American democracy are grave and urgent, and we all must do more to stand against them.” True
