Our Christmas tree is up. Because we never took it down. Hideous aluminum beast. The sixties with a color wheel shining on it as it rotates. Looked great in July. Looks groovy now.
This heathen loves Christmas. It’s never too soon.
I love the songs, the myths, the kitsch, the season and the TV specials that made it cool to be a cartoonist.
And my favorite sermon of all time. Dicken’s “Christmas Carol”. Everyone claims to love the old story of the born again Republican who comes to believe wealth must be shared yet we live in a world ruled by Scrooges. How does that happen?
Hypocrisy, poverty and greed aside I still like Christmas. I love my family at Christmas because that’s when we make time for each other. The artist Tim Minchin sums up my sentiments about Christmas poetically.
May you be first at the bargain bin of life online and in reality.
And one more thing. Full of grattitude for every milagro and mitzvah that comes my way I am going away to chase grandkids. I am going to take a few days off. I will return to your inbox on Friday, December 6th.
Thankfully yours,
D
This was unreal ... as was Tim Minchin, new to me. (So, who inspired who, here?) Happy Daze Off, Oh Slave to Deadlines. You've earned the down time. Enjoy.
Enjoy your well-earned break AKA vacation
