VACATION
October 1-October 8th I am taking a vacation. This history nerd has been looking forward to this treat for a long time. Ellen and I are going to colonial Williamsburg to stay above one of the taverns for a week. The colonial triangle, which includes Yorktown and Jamestown, is one of my favorite places in America. I worked very near there in Newport News, Virginia at The Daily Press for a number of years, and I fell in love with colonial history and the Chesapeake Bay region.
Oysters, crab cakes, Pocahontas, Smith, Rochambeau, Lafayette, Hamilton and Washington await my return.
When I worked across the bay at the Virginian Pilot Ledger Star in Norfolk, Virginia, the arts critic and I got a gig as extras portraying one of hundreds of colonial soldiers in the Yorktown surrender sequence in the 1984 mini-series “Geroge Washington” starring Barry Bostwick for a story he was writing. It was a blast wearing the uniform.
Here is Episode 13. Start at 8:46 and I promise you won’t see me and my friend among the hundreds of paid fools:
So just before the election that determines whether or not their dream endures, instead of issuing broadsides for the cause, I’ll be eating Sally Lunn bread and marching behind a fife and drum corps on Gloucester Street among autumn leaves and trusting you’ll do what’s right.
The next couple of months will be very busy so now would be a good time to set aside some dates on your calendar.
Odyssey Storytelling
First we have one of my favorite Tucson treats coming up on Thursday Sept. 5th at 7 pm, a night of “Odyssey Storytelling” at the Screening Room located at 127 E. Congress Street, downtown. I love this group. Odyssey never fails to delight. The theme this time is “Manifestations"

Do Something
Playing to my strength, in the days ahead I’m planning to make a series of videos with instructions in the manner of Bob Ross on how to make a series of simple homemade “Harris/Walz” poster placards for street demonstrations. I’m too surly to work a phone bank or knock on doors but I can organize street corner demonstrations to show the overwhelming support for the ticket as the race gets closer.
We’ll show the citizens of this valley who we support. A corner at a time, an hour at a time. If all my subscribers and friends and fellow progressives show up with me Kamala and Tim will be proud of us. You can bring your own homemade signs and flags. I’ll bring water, flags and all the placards I make. Along with this:
Which street corners? What time of day? Thoughts.
Have a beautiful August!
Green Valley supporters of Harris/Walz meet every Saturday morning at the intersection of La Canada and Esperanza. A few Trumpers there too! Come join us!!
Thank you for your creative activism! I'm in for the demonstrations! In town ideas: Speedway and a couple of different major cross streets midtown and east; Oracle Rd going both ways, to get those "westerners" in Oro Valley, like Steve Bannon - maybe at Ina to get the Skyline traffic - and toward the south, any ideas?
