Right here in Tucson we got two examples of what I’ve been talking about, Gomez.
What’s that?
How democracy works. And doesn’t.
What are you talking about, Bubba?
Two stories in the newspaper recently.
What’s that?
It’s a paper with news printed on it.
No! The stories.
One was about the release of body cam video regarding the shooting of the suspect at Tohono Chul Park by deputies with the Pima County sheriffs department.
And?
What I saw was a good example of transparency, accountability and respect for the law. As it should be for all institutions that serve the people. If all of Trump’s agents behaved in the same fashion, adhering to the same honorable customs and values. Lift your cerveza, vato, to those brave men and women.
Viva the good guys. Okay. I get it, Bubba. What’s the other thing?
The other story that concerns me was about the County Board of Supervisors having an NDA with a corporation that builds these giant data centers.
No Diapers Allowed?
Non Disclossure Agreement.
Who are they dealing with? Stormy Daniels?
Don’t derail me, Gomez.
It’s the Cerveza, bro. Well, is this data center they’re dancing with promising high paying jobs?
$65,000 and up.
That’s at least a dozen eggs. Sounds like good wage jobs, buddy.
And they will house sensitive cyberdata.
Data on us? Like surveillance data? A.I.?
Don’t know. We don’t know anything. I do know they tend to use lots of water and power.
They do?
Data centers use massive amounts of energy, costing us significant greenhouse gas emissions and environmental concerns. And yup, they use large amounts of water for cooling. And where do we live?
A desert.
Just saying.
So this baby’s controversial?
Yup. They wanna keep the details quiet so there is little time for citizen input on the process. They signed anyone’’s right to know away.
That is anti democratic.
They’ll tell ya that’s business.
What?
That’s the way business has always been done with cities and counties courting corporations. They’re left begging these fat cat employers to settle in their communities by offering them bribes and sweet deals like Mafia dons. All on the down low. That’s how it’s down with stadiums, mega developements and corproate HQs. That’s capitalism bro.
That is anti-democratic.
Sometimes our money grubbing impulses move us to abandon our democratic principles.
Sometimes?
Its sad that The short term pols are distroying the long term Tucson.
When the Chaned 4 scans the skyline on the weather report there is now always a pall of smog over the city. The traffic is wild and even my secret routes have been discovered.
Soon you will be bathing in imported bottled water. and parking in Casa Grande as the infill in the downtown area will make it gridlock...
Not sure any of us can change this outcome. It’s sickening. AZ is going to turn into a giant mining pit only livable for data mining centers.
