I turned off Aviation onto 22nd. As I approached Reid Park, the site of the 50/50/1 “Hands off” rally I steeled myself for disappointment. The streets were empty on the way into town. Would Tucsonans turn out? Would you be surprised to read I spelled “Tucsonan” correctly?
I rolled to a stop at Country Club for a red light and looked up across the intersection and experienced such awe I wept. I did a double take. Can’t be real. I had never seen so many people in one place here in my hometown in all my life. Thousands of them. With thousands of signs and banners and flags. I was stunned. The light turned green and the honking began. We are in this together.
